Rubella is a viral illness that is also known as three-day measles (since the infection typically lasts for about three days) and German measles. It can cause symptoms such as muscle and body aches, pink eye, tiredness, and fever, but can also cause serious birth defects in pregnant women. The rubella virus is transmitted through sneezing or coughing, or by touching the mouth or nose after being in contact with an infected surface.
